Cheerfully Modern in Oregon

Whimsical, white and modern, this cheerful kitchen was designed with materials hand-picked by the clients. From the beginning, they knew that they wanted a modern all-white design with wood floors and pops of color to make it comfortable and warm. The clients, a family of 3, hired Eric Schnell ofAlan Mascord Design to bring their design to life and create a kitchen that would embody their love of family and the outdoors.
The back side of the home faces Oregon's coastal mountain range, so Schnell and his team opened up this house to take advantage of those views and the beautiful Northwestern light. The kitchen island was designed with ample counter space so that prep work could be done while facing the view. Upper cabinetry was limited to keep the kitchen feeling open, so drawer organization systems were installed in the island to hold glasses and other dishes.

The designers opened up the kitchen to the living room to combine the family spaces. This way the cook never feels isolated from family or guests.
The clients are a very active couple with one young son. All three love the outdoors and wanted their home to connect with their beautiful backyard and view. In this dining area, the 10-foot sliding glass doors can slide into a pocket. During the summer, the doors can open up completely to the pool area.
The flooring is reclaimed barn siding. The countertops on the island and next to the range are made of a clean, white engineered quartz. The island bar is made of clear resin with nuggets of white marble for a luxurious and textural look.

A large outdoor living area sits at the other end of the kitchen space. Outdoor seating, a fireplace, and built-in grill are all accessible through 10-foot folding glass doors.
A prep space sits just around the corner from the main kitchen. This colorful spot was designed as a place for the family to organize and drop off groceries as they come in the door. Since it's tucked around the corner, it help keeps the main prep area clutter-free.
