Goodbye flimsy tank tops and flip flops. Hello layers and leather boots. Herewith, our fab five fashion purchases for fall:
Both
Phoebe Philo at Celine and Isabel Marant favoured a Fifties-era trouser
cut a few inches above the ankle. The slim crop from Gap’s premium black pant collection fits that bill and our budget. Our first fall purchase, they’re both gamine and trés comfy. $69.50 at Gap stores, www.gapcanada.ca
Luxe and laidback, a silk menswear shirt is must-have, and we’ll have the Equipment
one Carine Roitfeld wears, thank you. Designed by her longtime paramour
Christian Restoin in the '80s, the line was just revived this year.
$180 at Net-A-Porter, www.netaporter.com
For weekend errands, we’d like nothing more than to throw on boots, jeans and Wilfred Free’s Navajo wrap jacket like an urban nomad. $225 in print or solid heather at Aritzia stores, www.aritzia.com
A
fall wardrobe requires some rich hues. Sachin + Babi has put two
together beautifully in their Rosetta skirt made of maize-coloured
crepe with a embroidered belt in amethyst. $346 at Violet Boutique, www.violetboutique.ca
Nearly
every designer did a bootie shoe this season (probably because it works
with nearly everything). Working just as well with military jackets as
feminine frills, the Opening Ceremony W5 wedge boot
is our pick. We love it in hunter green suede, but for Vancouver’s wet
weather black leather is your best bet. $575 at Gravity Pope, www.gravitypope.com
