IN THE RAW
|
OCTOBER 1ST, 2008IN THE RAWWe're talking about raw artistic talent, not food (thank goodness). Inspired by the popular Art Jamming soirees in Hong Kong, Yaletown's new Raw Canvas is a spin on the hot paintertainment trend right here in Terminal City. Part gritty urban art studio, part coffee lounge and soon-to-be wine bar, Raw Canvas draws you into its dramatic Paris Salon meets whimsical Alice in Wonderland embrace. Think lush, luxe and curvy Christopher Guy chaises, purple wallpaper from Cole + Sons, and a dramatic gilded mirror that casts a soft reflection onto the expansive space. Sip espresso (from 49th Parallel), sway to a live DJ's beats, and get down to a blank canvas (preferably with a group of just-as-excited or nervous friends) and make a bold gesture with some paint. It's fun. Full length smocks (no paint on those Chie Mihara's please), and a Crayola-esque assortment of paint, brushes and supplies are provided, as is all the time you need. Watch out Frida Kahlo, here you come. Raw Canvas, 1046 Hamilton St., Vancouver, 778-889-7586. Got something to add to this dose? Post it on our forum! We'll be giving prizes to our best forum posts every month, so just log-in to win!
