So you don't sew your children's clothes from vintage patterns.

But you can still be a happy homemaker by making their play dough with this no–fail, 15–minute recipe.

Tip: Use just a few drops of food colouring to create pretty pastel shades of peach, mint and lavender, and a drop of essential oil to make it smell nice.

Ingredients:
4C flour
1C salt
4C water
4 tablespoons oil
½C cream of tartar
food colouring
essential oil (optional)

Method:
1. Sift dry ingredients into a heavy–bottomed pot then add wet ingredients. Stir over low heat until it forms a dough (10 minutes or so).
2. Separate into 6 and let cool on the counter, then kneed in food colouring a few drops at a time.
3. Drop into a Ziplock and refrigerate.
4. Pat yourself on the back.
