The Real Puff Daddy

OCTOBER 19TH, 2007

Looking for the ultimate in cool hostess gifts?

How about a box of cream puffs from the Beard Papa cream puff chain from Japan?

Just opened in Richmond, Beard Papa sells nothing but its patented cream puffs ($1.75) filled with a secret recipe of silky whipped vanilla cream custard in a choux pastry shell.

The shells are filled to order so they’re as fresh as can be, and packed in the signature yellow carrier box with the bearded logo fashioned after the founder’s grandpa.

With outlets as far-flung as London England, it has such an international cult following that when Beard Papa opened in Singapore, huge queues formed and they completely sold out before the end of each day.

Here in Richmond wait time regularly exceeds an hour and they’ve set a limit (max. two dozen) to how many each customer can buy so there’s enough to go around.

Now that’s cream puff democracy.
